Field trip to Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island

On August,4 we had a field trip at Bainbridge Island, and we took the bus to Pioneer Square and transferred to the ferry. Because of approach the lunch time, and we don't familiar with Bainbridge. So we needed to ask people to recommend the shops and restaurants. I asked three people with my partner, and one of them said Streamliner Dine, another let us to use tour information, the other said Nola Coffee. In the ferry, I decided to eat at Streamliner Dine, because a lot of people recommended there.

When we arrived there, first, I saw Streamliner Dine. But there was too much people in the line and there foods was not really attracted me, so we keep going and decided to eat at the other place.
This is the picture of Streamliner Dine

So we went to another restaurant to eat, that restaurant called Fork & Spoon, and it sold some salad, sandwiches...... I ordered a turkey sandwich with season fruits, and I like it. I think this restaurant's quality was not bad, the veggie was fresh and it tasted good. So I recommend this restaurant to you, you can sit both inside and outside. And we had seat at outside to enjoy sunshine and had special experience.

When I got off the ferry, I saw a wish tree. And there was a lot of wishes on the tree.
Then at Bainbridge had some sculptures of frogs, I think it maybe was Bainbridge's symbolize.
Then my partner and me visited some different stores, we went to the candle store, art store, cloth store, book store, candy store, and church.
There was a store I really liked it, it sold some pretty jewelries, painting, stones, sculpture, music...... I really liked these small thing, and the staff told me all the things was designed by local artists. And music in this store made me feel very comfortable, because it combined birdsong and classic music, let me felt relax and delighted.
These is different shop at Bainbridge

This is my favorite store, I think its music could encourage people, and I love it a lot.
And this is the church, but we didn't have enough time to visit it.

Different and similar thing with my country

In my country, if we want to go to a island we need to take a plane or spend more times to take a ship.
But in Seattle, island is pretty closed to main land.
And the similar thing is, the small island is more relax and scenery is prettier. Moreover, both Bainbridge and my country's island have special symbolize.

Though Bainbridge is not as progress as big city, but I think there is a very lovely place. If I have chance, I'll be glad to go there again.

Explore to Gas Work Park.

Gas Work Park

This weekend I went to Gas Work Park with my aunt and cousin, this is the picture of Gas Work Park's map and introduction.
It talk about why this park was created and its story.

The History in Gas Work Park

This was the first time I went to the Gas Work Park, this is a very famous park in Seattle, I heard it several times. But I don't know why it is so popular. So I chose it to explore and have fun. Before the day I went there, I had searched the internet about the park's history and some interesting things. I found out the reason why it called Gas Work Park is, it constructed a factory in 1906, and this factory manufactured gas from coal - later converted to crude oil. Then Seattle acquired the site for a park in 1962, and in 1975 this park was opened for public. And it used to call Myrtle Edwards Park, because Myrtle Edwards was a person who had a lot of contributions of this park.
These are the picture of the factory of Gas Work Park.

The Special Things and Activities

Gas Work Park has a large area and it is very beautiful, because it located on the north shore of Lake Union. So it has some water sports, like some people will boating in the lake, it including  tugs, yachts, tour ships, sailboats, kayaks and canoes. I am very interested in activities of  Lake Union. Some people also will kite flying and picnic there, because it also features an artificial kite-flying hill.

This is the picture of people boating in the lake.
The artificial kite-flying hill also with an elaborately sculptured sundial built into its summit.

And it has some wild ducks in the park.

Actually, I don't know what the animal is. But it is very cute, and the parents protected their kids a lot.
Be careful and don't be too closed with them, or they will hurt you.
Another beautiful scenery is you can see the downtown Seattle when you in the Gas Work Park. Because it located on west Seattle, so across the lake is Seattle Center.

And when I was walking on the Gas Work Park, I found out there has so many houseboats. It really surprised at me, because inside houseboats it also has electricity, water and some daily necessities. So houseboat not only is peoples' house, but also can carry them travel around. So cool, isn't it?

Compare My Country's Park and Gas Work Park

In my country, park doesn't have a lake. It just a small park let people to exercise, walking, and relax. We also can flying the kite in the park, but we don't have any water activity in the park. Compare my own country, Gas Work Park has history and large area to engaged in different activities.

Start my adventure

Seattle Art Museum

Foreword

Every month's first Thursday, Seattle's museum will be free, so we went to SAM to appreciate the painting and sculpture ..... This is the first time I've been to SAM, I really liked it and had fun, because there have a lot of different culture's exhibition. I think everything can be art, food can be art, and beautiful scenery can be art. Because art cannot just confine of painting, sculpture or photo. If you think it is art, it would be art. This is my definition of art. I chose two different sections to visit, one is eastern culture, another one is western culture. Then let me introduce the section I've visited and my favorite art.

Nature and Pattern in Japanese Design

This is the first part I've been to visit, it full all of Japanese historical relic. In this section has some traditional  woman clothes, traditional hanging scroll, and some beautiful plates. My favorite staff call Peonies, it is a hanging scroll, the reason why I love it, is because it has a lot of color, and I think this is very graceful, and magnificent.

Decorative Arts and Design

The other section I have visited is Decorative Arts and Design, this part full a lot of paintings and sculptures, and it is more modern than Japanese section, because all of paintings and sculptures can appear of progress of the times, people's life and the situation of the city, so compare the traditional eastern art, it shows more humanity in the painting. This is my favorite staff in this section, it is the window call " Peonies in the Wind. "
The reason why I like it is the color on this staff is very bright. And the meaning is according to a friend , painter John interests in decoration of architectural interiors "let him to the careful observation of ancient stained glass, with a view to providing the modern world with something that might be to it what the window of Reims Cathedral... were to the Middle Ages." I like both of painting and meaning of this staff.
This is the elevator from Chicago stock Exchange.

This is "Women at Work." It show the live of women in 19 century.

This is "Spring on West 78th Street." This painting was painted on 20 century, the painter was an American, and he loved New York and spent most of  time in New York. So he painted it to described the city in his mind.

Compare the Art Museum of my Country and SAM

This is the art museum in my country, sometimes we will have some exhibition about famous painters and special sculptures, but we don't have different culture's exhibition at the same time.
This is SAM, its exhibition has different culture's staff,so it is very different from the museum of my hometown.

Welcome to my blog: My Adventure in Seattle! My name is Ke- Chieh Cheng, and my English name is Lareina. I am very active and like to make friends. I came to Seattle on last Tuesday, because I just finished my final in my school then I  flied to here to join this program. I come from Taiwan, Tainan and my family has three members including my parents and I, so I am a single child. By the way, in the coming fall, I will be a sophomore. Now I live in Bellevue, and I will stay in Seattle until I finish this program in UW. My purpose to set up this blog is let you be more familiar with me. (Attach is map about my hometown)

I post the picture to compare the two cities where I live. And I love both of Tainan and Bellevue.

This is Tainan, we have a lot of historical sites, and all of my family lives here.
This is Bellevue Downtown Park; the scenery is very beautiful and has a lot of shopping mall.

And I am a university student now, my school is located in Kaohsiung, and my major is Applied English.  Because I want to improve my English ability and practice myself, and I think environment is very  important, so this summer vacation I come to Seattle to broaden my horizon and have different experience.

This is my school, we have Ferris wheel and shopping mall.
It is very different from other university.

 Hobbies

I have several hobbies, for instance, my favorite sport is volleyball, and I join my department's volleyball team. I like my teammates so much because we have same hobby and we can practice our skill with each other. In this spring, we also had a competition in Taipei.

This is the picture about our teammates and it was taken after the competition.
I also like to read the book in my leisure time, if I feel disappoint or I get into the trouble, I would read the book to calm down myself. To me, I like to read Inspirational Fiction because it can let me think a lot, and I will learn more in the book, and think the direction of my life when I feel confused. My favorite book is "The Little Price", it is the book talking about a price left his plant and had an adventure on the earth. In his journey, he met a lot of people, someone good, and someone bad, and when he arrived the next place, he would become more mature. Every character in this book has different symbolic, and I love this book so much! If you had read this book before, welcome to share your opinion with me.
